The sound of Paul Mauriat
caused a revolution not only in the United States but all over the world. The fantastic success of
"Love is Blue" placed that beautiful melody as the record of the biggest sale and popularity
in the United States. In Peru is a hit of national range.
All this story began on April 1967 when André Popp and Pierre Cour
wrote the song "L' amour est bleu" for the Eurovision Festival that took place in Luxembourg.
That year the winner song was "Puppets on the String" that while it became an international hit
didn't reach the popularity that today holds "Love is Blue", thanks to the splendid arrangement
and performance of the Grand Orchestra of Paul Mauriat
The second part of this story takes place in September 1967 in
Minneapolis (Minnesota) United States. There, Alan Mitchell, a disc jockey like many others in South America
that admire the works of Paul Mauriat began to program regularly "Love is Blue". Immediately, phone
calls and letters from the listeners to Alan Mitchell the more frequent broadcasting of that melody.
Logically, that reaction moved Alan Mitchell to phone Chicago's Philips which right away started a
promotion and a distribution of the records of Paul Mauriat in the whole United States and for first time
a French orchestra became the "vedette" in North America, the
Mecca of "Show Business".
The sucess of Paul Mauriat and his Orchestra with "Love is Blue",
that became No. 1 in the rankings of specialized magazines such as Billboard, Cashbook or Recordworld, prompted
the presentation of Mauriat at the "ED SULLIVAN SHOW" which confirmed even more the popularity of this
French arranger, pianist and composer. But besides that, the story and talent of Paul Mauriat is very extensive
since it was him with his marvelous arrangements and orchestrations that helped the famous recordings of
Charles Aznavour and Mireille Mathieu.

and the Charles Cross Trophy, bring us now an updated selection of famous world hits such as Delilah, Pata Pata,

El sonido
de Paul Mauriat causó una revolución no solamente en los Estados
Unidos sino en todo el mundo. El fabuloso suceso de "El Amor es
Triste" (The Love is Blue) ubicó a esa hermosa melodía como el
disco de mayor venta y popularidad en los Estados Unidos. En el
Perú es un éxito en escala nacional.
Toda esta historia comenzó en Abril de 1967
cuando André Popp y Pierre Cour escribieron la canción "L' amour
est bleu" con el concursaban en el Festival de Eurovisión que se
realizó en Luxemburgo. Ese año la canción ganadora fué
"Marionetas en la Cuerda" que si bien se constituyó en un éxito
internacional no alcanzó la gran popularidad que hoy detenta "Love
is Blue", gracias al genial arreglo é interpretación de la Gran
Orquesta de Paul Mauriat.
La segunda parte de esta historia tiene
lugar en Setiembre de 1967 en Minneapolis (Minnesota) Estados
Unidos. Allí Alan Mitchell, un Disc Jockey que como muchos en
Sud-América admiran los discos de Paul Mauriat comenzó a
programar con frecuencia "Love is Blue". De inmediato las
llamadas telefónicas y cartas de sus auditores solicitaron a
Alan Mitchell la irradiación más frecuente de esa melodía.
Lógicamente, esa reacción motivó que Alan Mitchell telefoneara a
la Philips de Chicago quien de inmediato inició una promoción y
una distribución de los discos de Paul Mauriat en todos los
Estados Unidos y por primera vez una orquesta Francesa se
convertía en "vedette" en Norte América, la meca de "Show
Business".
El éxito de Paul Mauriat y su Gran Orquesta
con "El Amor es Triste", que fué No. 1 en los rankings de
especializadas revistas como Billboard, Cashbook ó Recordworld,
motivó la presencia de Mauriat al "ED SULLIVAN SHOW" lo que
confirmó aún más popularidad de éste arreglista, pianista y
compositor francés. Pero aparte de ello la historia y el talento
de Paul Mauriat es muy extensa ya que fué él quien con sus
estupendos arreglos y orquestaciones propició las celebradas
grabaciones de Charles Aznavour y Mireille Mathieu.
